About us
Ghana Favorites began as a new chapter in our lives during the pandemic. For years, we sold clothing, but we felt the need for a fresh direction — one that would not only support our family but also honor my wife’s Ghanaian heritage. That’s how we discovered the beauty and tradition of handwoven baskets from Ghana.
Our Baskets and Their Journey
Each basket is crafted in the northern Bolgatanga region of Ghana, a place known for its skilled artisans and rich weaving traditions. From Bolgatanga, the baskets make a six-hour truck journey to the airport near Tema. To keep shipping costs manageable, the baskets are transported flat, but this does not compromise their quality — with a little water and gentle hands, each basket can be reshaped back to its original form, ready for use and display.
From the port, we rent a container to bring the baskets to the United States, arriving via Chicago. Once in Wisconsin, we bring them to farmers’ markets across Illinois and Wisconsin, sharing a piece of Ghanaian heritage with local communities.
Our Process
Every basket carries a story. Crafted by skilled artisans using carefully selected natural materials, each piece reflects generations of tradition, patience, and creativity. When you bring a basket home, you’re not only getting a beautiful and functional piece — you’re also supporting the communities in Ghana that create them.
For us, this journey is exciting and rewarding, even with its challenges. Every basket represents effort, passion, and a special connection between cultures. And now, we’re proud to share these treasures with the world through our website, bringing the artistry of Ghana into homes everywhere.
